Privacy Policy

Julienned is a recipe app operated by Clicking Nook LLC ("we"). This policy covers the Julienned app and the julienned.app website. For any question or request about your information, email support@clickingnook.com.

What we collect

When you create an account we collect your email address and, if you provide it or sign in with Apple or Google, your name. We store the recipe links, text, photos and PDFs you submit, and the recipes, collections and settings you save. PDFs you submit for scanning are deleted from our servers once the recipe has been extracted. Photos you scan are kept as the recipe's picture until you delete your account. If you join our email list, we keep your email address to send you updates, and every email includes an unsubscribe link.

The app records how it is used, including screens viewed, features used, the links you import and errors, together with your device type, operating system version and app version. This is linked to your account: our analytics provider receives your account ID, name and email address with it. Subscriptions are bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play; we receive your purchase records and subscription status but never your card details.

The app uses your camera and photo library only when you scan or attach a photo. If you turn on voice commands in cook mode, your device's own speech recognition listens for commands; your device may send that audio to Apple or Google to recognize it, and we do not receive or store it. The app does not access your contacts or your device's location. Our sign-in provider records the IP address and approximate city of each sign-in to protect your account, and our analytics provider may receive your IP address with usage data.

How we use it

We use your information to run Julienned: to sign you in, store and sync your recipes, turn the content you submit into recipes, read recipes aloud, manage your subscription, fix problems, improve the app, answer support requests, and respond to legal notices. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who receives it

We share information only with the companies that help us operate Julienned: Clerk for sign-in and accounts, Convex for our database and servers, PostHog for usage analytics, RevenueCat for subscription status, Apple and Google for purchases and billing, Resend for email delivery, and the AI services described below. Each is bound by its terms with us to protect your information at least as well as this policy requires and to use it only to provide its service to us. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

AI services

Before any of your content is sent to an AI service, the app asks for your permission. With your permission, the app sends the content you choose, which may be recipe web pages, pasted text, photos, PDF pages, YouTube video links, and the ingredients and steps of recipes you have saved, to Anthropic and Google so it can be turned into a recipe. You can withdraw your permission at any time in the app under Settings → Manage Account → AI processing. While it is withdrawn, recipe extraction and photo scanning are turned off and nothing is sent to these services; your saved recipes, manual recipe entry, and read-aloud with your device's built-in voice continue to work.

Julienned uses YouTube API Services to import recipes from YouTube videos. When you import a video, we request that video's public details from YouTube and send no information about you. The Google Privacy Policy applies to YouTube API Services.

Website cookies

The julienned.app website stores your theme and cookie choices in your browser. Website analytics set cookies only if you accept them in the cookie banner; until then they run without cookies. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie Preferences link at the bottom of the site. The website does not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. The app does not use cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Manage Account → Delete Account, or by emailing us. Deletion begins immediately and is normally complete within 30 days. Your profile, email address, sign-in data, collections, grocery lists and settings are permanently removed, along with the recipes you scanned, pasted or typed in and the photos you scanned or added. Recipe content extracted from public web pages may be kept with every link to you removed, and the usage analytics linked to your account are deleted. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google; cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings.

Security

Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access to it is restricted.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, and delete your account in the app at any time. To use any of the rights in this section, email support@clickingnook.com. We reply within 30 days.

If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information on these legal bases: performing our contract with you, which covers running the service; your consent, which covers sending content to AI services and website analytics cookies and which you can withdraw at any time; and our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app, which covers in-app analytics. You also have the right to receive your information in a portable format, to restrict or object to our processing of it, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to have it deleted, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information.

Children

Julienned is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Where it is processed

Your information is processed in the United States, where we and our service providers operate. We require our providers to protect it as described in this policy.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will change the effective date above and tell you by email or in the app.
